Work in Progress

Here's some work in progress from a side project I've been working on during some time. Prints are available for sale, please inquire to martin@martinadolfsson.com

Visual Structures is a series of digital compositions consisting of urban elements from Jakarta, Tokyo, Mumbai, New York, Chicago, São Paulo, Dubai, London, Miami and Seattle. Together they form an endless urban landscape of glass, steel and reinforced concrete, cast in a seemingly repetitive universal framework.

While statues of Kings and Emperors were the manifest of old-world sovereignty, these structures come to represent the symbol of new-world Globalization. These vertical structures are not only a sign of rising prosperity but more importantly a coming-of-age symbol, especially in developing nations. Visual Structures is the representation of our modern civilization’s steady march towards global homogenization.

Portraits from California

After months of silence, it's time for an update! The last couple of months have been quite extraordinary in many ways (hence the lack of updates). The first trip of the year went to California - to photograph a group of very inspiring artists and entrepreneurs (escaping the dreadful NYC winter didn't hurt either). Next stop was Brazil to shoot Architecture at the incredible art center Inhotim, located in the middle of the Brazilian jungle (in the State of Minas Gerais).

After a few frenetic days in NYC, I was off to Hong Kong and Macau- where I met and photographed rooftop garden activists, eccentric chefs and eventually won $3 at the Greyhound Racing track in Macau. Recently, I went to Panama City for an architecture and travel story for enRoute (Air Canada's) in-flight magazine. More work from all these trips will eventually appear here - but let's start with some of my favorite frames from California:

Star Architect Peter Marino

It's not very often you get to photograph someone dressed in leather from head to toe who goes by the name of "The Pedro". Especially not on the 36th floor of a corporate building in Midtown Manhattan during daytime. However when you do, it's comforting to know that the subject, Architect Peter Marino is a genuinely nice guy to work with. If you ever visited a high-end retailer such as Dior, Prada or Gucci chances are very high that Peter designed that store.

Updated Stories section

I've finally come around to update the Stories section here in the site with some new (and old) work shot in Japan, Utah, Toronto and Brooklyn. This is the section where I gather the narrative-based work I've been shooting for editorial and commercial clients.  After all, why not collect it all in one place?
